Our Mission

St Catherine of Siena Parish is a welcoming community of disciples of Jesus Christ, living and celebrating in Sacrament the Catholic Christian tradition so that all who seek may experience the loving presence of God

New Parish Logo

Our new Parish Logo (see above) illustrates our understanding of our mission and ministries.

This logo is inspired by the Rose Window that graces the façade of our church. That rose window has twelve panels radiating out from a central circle, each panel containing a symbol of one of the twelve apostles, the foundation stones upon which Christ builds his church. In the rose window, those twelve radiating panels form a closed design. All that the Church requires for her effectiveness and growth has been given to her by her Lord, and handed on faithfully by the apostles.

In our logo, however, the design is incomplete. A contemporary song by Marty Haugen that we often use at Mass says, "Gather us in, the lost and forsaken. Gather us in, the blind and the lame." We see our community is incomplete until all are gathered in, and to that goal we dedicate our energies. The rose window, and our logo, both are centered on a circle within which is a three-lobed device called a "trefoil," ancient symbol of the Holy Trinity. It is the communion of Persons in the One God that is our inspiration and the very source of our communion. May God be praised in all we do here at Saint Catherine's. Father, Son and Holy Spirit

2012 S.O.S. SCHEDULE introduced

Having impacted the lives of countless impoverished, hungry and homeless individuals in its inaugural, 2011 year,  S.O.S./ Year 2 -- the SCS Stewardship Council's tremendously-successful Shepherds of Service Ministry -- was introduced at all Masses on October 15-16.  The 2012 Schedule continues the Ministry's ground-breaking work with four area charities: Covenant House - both its Crisis Center, Newark and satellite home, Montclair; Eva's Village/Hope Residence, Paterson; Bridges which serves the homeless of Newark; and, the NJ Food Bank, Hillside.

Parishioners were reminded of the S.O.S. philosophy, "one parishioner, one task, one time."  Council & Ministry Chair, Pat Braun, stressed, "If every one of our 2,200+ registered families gave of themselves - JUST ONCE in the upcoming year - to help the homeless through this Ministry, just imagine the effect of our cumulative effort!"

In its first year, with its 50+ scheduled Events and Activities, S.O.S. engaged nearly 300 volunteers, almost 2/3 of which had never been involved in parish ministry.  CLICK HERE for the S.O.S. Brochure, 2012 Sign-Up Form or 2012 Schedule, which provides contact information for each Activity's Leader, may be accessed here.  Completed Sign-Up Forms may be deposited in an S.O.S. box at Church exits, placed in the Sunday collection basket or delivered to the Parish Rectory, 339 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove.
